Mar 2010 - The Practice buys Drummond Medical
Primary care provider The Practice has acquired Drummonds Medical, a supplier of medical support services. The move is part of The Practice's expansion strategy for its secure health services division, the company said.
Drummond Medical is currently subcontracted by The GEO Group, a global provider of detention services, to provide healthcare services into two immigration removal centres; Harmondsworth, Middlesex and Campsfield House, Oxon.
Peter Watts, chief executive of The Practice, said: “Our goal is to provide patients in secure establishments with a range and quality of services comparable to those we offer at our community based surgeries and clinics.
“We have a strong track record of delivering GP services into prisons and detention centres and apply the same patient centred ethos to all we do.”
The funding for the acquisition came from existing resources, and the terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The Practice currently provides primary medical services for a further two prisons: HMP Winchester, Hampshire and HMP Kingston, Portsmouth.
